Mad QUEEN of Hearts BEER CAN Party Crown!  Crochet Hat Tutorial Mad Queen of Hearts Beer Can Party Crown! Crochet Hat Tutorial I Love a Crochet Design Challenge I’ve had some requests for a Beer Can Hat in a Mad Hatter style , which I am working on. But I knew I wanted to make a Crown in this shape as well, a proper giant crown the regal queen that I am. Epic! I know, isn’t it??  I tried to show you some of my design process in this one. But I ended up remaking the whole thing 3 times so… there will be a few Design Lessons from the Future and notes about some of the changes I made on my journey.  I definitely did figure some tricks out along the way, dude there is some serious crochet engineering  going on in some of my hats. Ha! My builder hubs was impressed even. I love the challenge! So fun. XTall BEER CAN Party Top Hat Easy Step by Step Crochet Tutorial XTall Beer Can Party Top Hat - Easy Crochet Tutorial Oh this will be a good one!  Now that I've shown you the Beer Can Hat basics, we can really get funky. It's time to stack the cans high and crochet the best top hat ever! You want to make an impressive bbq entrance? Be the belle of the beer fest? I got you. This hat makes a statement!  I recently perfected my extra tall can stacking crochet techniques while making a triple tall hat for my husband's birthday. I just posted a video of the making , no talking, no instructions. Just music and occasional sounds of the cheesy shows I watched those rainy days. Ha.   Two Levels of Reg or Tall Cans Here I decided to use 2 levels of regular size cans, just for ease of fitting on my lap I guess. Tall cans are just as easy to assemble and would be extra awesome. I will also show you how to add more levels if you are feeling daring. When finished, the levels are surpri

Best Beer Can Bucket Hat Pattern - Crochet Party Hat Tutorial The Best Beer Can Bucket Hat Crochet Tutorial One Beer Can Bucket Hat from Start to Finish Yep the hits keep on coming! Right after I posted my big 3 part Beer Can Hat tutorial , I realized I needed a more compact version. So I cut them up into a Down & Dirty Just the Basics tutorial , which has become my most popular by far. Great!  But that leads me to believe I need another basic hat video, not all chopped up, but the same hat from start to finish. I know, seems obvious to the non supernerd, but whatever. I'm doing it now!! okay??  What I did for this new improved Beer Can Bucket Hat, was to redesign the Bucket Hat from the prev basic tutorials:  We'll use the same basic 2 round label from Part 1 , shape the top like the Fez in Part 2 , and create a little bit stiffer Bucket brim than the one in Part 3 .  Just a superior Beer Can Bucket Hat design IMO.  I also added a few crochet tips for you, and tried to ke

Crochet BEER CAN Rock Star Party Fez!  Easy 3-in-1 Hat Tutorial - Part 2 Ultimate Beer Can Party Hat Tutorial Yay!! I am rolling along with these new tutorials and having a blast. As I was finishing up the last one, it occurred to me that I was not very clear about something. That is, how do I put this?   The deeper purpose of crocheting beer can hats.   See, I have a vision.  When I started making beer can hats, it was as kind of an art nerd party trick. I was an art student who was really into crochet, like I incorporated it into as many of my art classes as I could.  I was also writing my own hat patterns, and I loved the 70s crafts overall. So when I saw a pic somewhere of the 70s beer can hats, it was a no brainer.  I started taking beers to parties, and when the cans were empty, I'd spend the rest of the party crocheting a fabulous host gift. The reactions I would get were always of wonder and amazement. From art students and old grandmas alike! Non crocheters ar

I Used BEER CANS to Make a Wooden Sign - Easy DIY Garden Project

Image
I Used BEER CANS to Make a Wooden Sign  Easy DIY Garden Project I made a thing! Last summer after we overhauled our BBQ Zone, I really wanted to make a sign out of beer cans. I had the vision, I knew how I would do it... I just had never tried before. But it worked great!  I made a whole video about it here:     I Used BEER CANS to Make a Wooden Sign - Easy DIY Garden Project Just to be clear, this is not a complete tutorial. Ha. If it was, it would be much more detailed and informative believe me. This was one of my first how-to video attempts, and has many imperfections. Learning!  BUT I will be showing you the basics of how I made my beer can sign. Call it whatever. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ok! So first thing is to prepare a backing board, I used a piece of plywood which I painted.  Next I figured out how big I wanted my letters to be, and brought up a font on my laptop. When I had them the right size, I traced them onto paper like a light table. Then I cut them out.    I placed them on

Making the Daphne Book - Part 2

Image
Well, I am long winded as usual, so I'm continuing from Part 1 where I talked about tools and materials I used for the Daphne Book . Now I'll get into the process I used for developing the quiet book pages.  1. Design - I looked around the net a lot to get ideas, which also inspired more of my own ideas. Then I sat and sketched out my favorites. I thought about using different fasteners, counting, spelling, certain designs I knew I wanted to include like a robot and mermaid, etc. Very rough sketches, just to get the ideas down. I came up with 20 or so. Then I chose my favorites and decided I'd make 10 pages.   2. Refine - When I had a design I knew for sure I wanted, I would start a new page in my sketchbook and draw it out in the correct size. My pages are 9"x9" finished. I drew a 9" square and penciled my design, making changes until it was just right including all the details. I kept everything at least 1/2" away from the edges. I also consi
