Once Upon A Time...

...in a land far far away in the central valley, there were two waitresses not long out of high school. They were both young and fun and, working their crappy waitress job together, they became friends. They even ended up sharing an apartment. The older one liked to go out dancing and partying and would bring the party home with her. The younger one couldn't go to the club, but enjoyed the parties quite a bit herself. The apartment became the standard after hours party place. The story goes, that the older waitress helped the younger one get her first fake I.D. I can't say for sure. But what I do know is that in the end, they had a falling out over a guy. And not much later, the older one moved to Humboldt county. It didn't take her long to forget all about that crazy part of her life, and leave it completely behind her. The two waitresses did not keep in touch.

Fast forward 18 years.

The older waitress is still living in Humboldt county working as the artist and owner of a little dyed clothing business. She'd recently formed a business relationship with a well known local store... and one morning sent the shop owner an email asking about a possible re-order. Not 10 minutes later, she checked her phone messages and heard one from the shop's NEW owner wanting to place an order. She thought that a funny coincidence. But then, at the end of the message, the new owner said,"...and I don't know if you recognize my voice but it's me, Mary. Your young roommate from down south."

What?!? Exactly.

So, the two women, now both Humboldt locals and business owners... began to renew their old friendship. While forming a sweet new business relationship and some great creative energy.

Moral:  Never doubt that Humboldt is the nexus of the Universe.

And now I'd like to plug my friend Mary's shop, The Rocking Horse. A wonderful local shop specializing in local and natural children's goods... and now exclusive retailer of Bohemian Mermaid children's clothing in Arcata. Good luck, Mary!!
